36th Annual Antique Show & Sale


We are now planning our 36th Annual Antique Show & Sale for April 13 & 14, 2012 to be held at the Fayetteville-Manlius High School, House 1, on Tinderbox Road/Route 173 in Manlius. New this year is a Preview Party on Friday night from 4:00-7:00, admission $10.00/Members $8.00; and a one-day show on Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm, admission $4.00/Members $3.00.

YARN WORKSHOP FOR KIDS

Free workshop for ages 7+ and parents are welcome! Learn the basics of knitting and crocheting and practice old fashion spinning. Tour the Manlius Museum and explore the hands-on room! The workshop is offered for two sessions 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm at the Cheney House. Please register to reserve your spot. Donations are gladly accepted.

ERIE CANAL BOAT TRIP

Enjoy a Day Cruise aboard the Emita II while supporting the Manlius Historical Society! Listen to riveting tales of the Erie Canal as told by Captain Dan Wiles of Mid-Lakes Navigation Company. Take in the view of historic sites along the canal from Oswego to Syracuse while enjoying a continental breakfast, buffet lunch and snack. Departure: on the bus at Dutchman's Landing in Baldwinsville at 8:30am. Return to Dutchman's Landing at 5pm. Cost: $105 per passenger. *Must be booked in advance.

SANTA'S WORKSHOP

Spread holiday cheer and create lasting memories with your children! Santa will be at his workshop at the F-M High School on 8201 East Seneca Turnpike, Manlius, NY from 11am-3pm to hear your children's Christmas wishes and pose for pictures. Meanwhile, Santa's helpers will create holiday crafts with your children. FEATURING MAGIC PERFORMANCES BY THE JACKMAN TWINS!

THE WITCHERY OF STITCHERY: NEEDLEWORK PROGRAM FOR KIDS July 21, 2011 Free workshop for ages 7+ and parents are welcome! Learn the basics of quilting and embroidery. Sew on an old treadle machine and wash clothes on an old scrub board, basin and wringer! Tour the Manlius Museum and explore the hands-on room. Workshop will be open for two sessions 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm at the Cheney House. Please register to reserve your spot. Donations will be graciously accepted.

Academy Street Tour - Saturday, September 25, 2010; Conducted by Barbara Rivette at 10 AM and Jane Dall at 2 PM. Tour researched by Barbara Rivette. The tour will begin at Christ Church and proceed along Academy Street. Historical and architectural features of each house will be pointed out. The tour is a pre-Bicentennial Celebration and is a fundraiser for the Society. There will be a cost of $5 per person. Each participant will receive a handout with information on the houses. An illustrated booklet detailing the history and architecture of the Academy Street, Washington Street, and Seneca Street Triangle will also be available at the Cheney House as a supplement to the tour for an additional cost of $5 per copy.

This fall, the Manlius Historical Society will exhibit, “The Butcher, the Baker, & the Candlestick Maker!,” honoring early local business and traditional industry in our community. The exhibition will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at the Manlius Historical Museum, located at 101 Scoville, Manlius. The museum will be open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. thereafter until November 21.

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - Annual Meeting
Members and the general public are invited to a talk by author Norman Keim, the keynote speaker of the Society's 2009 Annual Meeting. It's "Your Ticket to the Movies." The event is free, but donations are appreciated. There will be a raffle. Event will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Wynwood of Manlius, 100 Flume Rd.

Join the Manlius Historical Society for a riveting talk by Chuck D'Imperio, author of Great Graves of Upstate New York.  Saturday April 25, 3 p.m. at the Cheney House Research Center, 109 Pleasant Street., Manlius.

Author Chuck D'Imperio's fascinating new book, "Great Graves of Upstate New York" is an exciting travelogue, a comprehensive reference work, and a fun and fact filled trivia book focusing on the lives (and deaths) of 70 great American legends. 6th Annual Festival of Miniature Trees Schedule, 2008 Join us for some holiday cheer this December! Individuals and community members are encouraged to donate a decorate an artificial "miniature" tree to participate in this 6th annual event that brings community members together for the holidays. Visitors are invited to the Manlius Historical Museum this fall to see a special exhibit, "Winning the Vote!: Political Campaign Memorabilia Through the Ages," open October 4 - November 8.

The society’s fall exhibit will celebrate the involvement and interest of local individuals in political campaigns, at the national and local level. Kerchiefs from two of President Grover Cleveland's campaigns for President will be featured, as well as information on Matilda Joslyn Gage, as two local individuals who made an impact on national politics.

Additionally, the exhibit will feature campaign buttons, sample paper ballots through the years, a ballot box, newspaper clippings and other remnants from elections of past years.
